Mangul Lab at USC welcomes Dhrithi Deshpande and Daniel Kim

We welcome two more members to our team! Dhrithi Deshpande is pursuing the Master of Science in Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy, and Daniel Yuen Wook Kim is an undergraduate student studying Mathematics and Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dhrithi and Daniel are joining the Mangul Lab at USC to study the relevance of computational biology in clinical pharmacology and genomics.

Dhrithi graduated from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore, India, with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biotechnology. Her previous research experience lies in the eco-toxicological studies and antimicrobial resistance pattern of coliform bacteria, structural, and conformational analysis of the drug resistant gene products to devise a novel bacteriophage based therapy for the treatment of lake water. Dhrithi also worked at Venkatesh lab at IIT Bombay, where she explored the effects of various micronutrients, lifestyles, and environmental parameters on the dynamics of T-cells and B-cells in the body (i.e., quantification of immunity using a systems biology approach).

Daniel first worked with Serghei in Eleazar Eskin’s lab in the Department of Computer Science at UCLA back in 2017, while he was a high school student in the Los Angeles area. Now a junior at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, Daniel is spending his 2019 Fall Semester as an intern with Mangul Lab at USC. Daniel’s research interests are in data science, and he is currently researching the discrepancies in different tools used in read alignment.
